Great Video Game Soundtrack – The Second Installment

Image

I know I said this was going to be weekly, but higher powers have forced me to release this earlier, and only have 3 installments of this subject. So here are 8 great soundtracks for you to have a listen to:

(Just a quick note; I learned of a way to directly upload YouTube videos to this, but I am not too sure if it works, so just disregard any errors if there are any)

(UPDATE: It didn’t work, I have no idea how any of this works, oh jolly!)

FTL : Faster Than Light

Another fantastic indie game with a fantastic soundtrack. Like Mass Effect 1’s score, exploration, discovery and mystery come to mind when listening to this exquisite soundtrack. A game also which I thoroughly recommend.

Deus Ex : Human Revolution

Probably one of my favourite soundtracks to date. Michael McCann has created a very special soundtrack for a very special game. In fact Deus Ex : HR was one of my favourites last gen (behind Portal 2 obviously). I really hope the future sounds like this.

Far Cry 2

Oh how I wished this game was good. When I started playing this I was rather excited, Africa, in a FPS? I felt it would be a nice change of scenery from the Middle East and the such. Instead we got a boring, bland, brown bastard of a game. Oh well, at least the title theme is good.

Assassins’ Creed 3

Another good theme/soundtrack from a game I disliked. In fact, AC3 had my favourite soundtrack from the series, even though it was my least favourite, hmmm…

The Witcher 2 : Assassins of Kings

My user-namesake. The Witcher 2 was an unexpected beauty. One of the best RPGs of all time (opinion). It compiles both the best from two of my favourite fantasy worlds – Middle Earth (Lord of the Rings) and Westeros (A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones). This specific track I have chosen isn’t my top pick, but it’s one I feel sums up The Witcher 2 fantastically.

Red Dead Redemption

Who doesn’t like cowboys!? Red Dead Redemption is a spaghetti western game at it’s finest, and its soundtrack does it justice. In the build of the track above, I get a sort of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vibe from it, but that may just be me.

Shadow of the Colossus

I’ve only played this game once, for at most 20 minutes. It’s magnificent, outstanding just… it makes me feel sad that I never got a PS3. Thankfully, I can imagine myself playing it by listening to it’s soundtrack.

Mass Effect 2

I have mixed opinions about ME2 – some which I will state in a post some time next week. However, even though I prefer ME1 as a game to 2, the soundtrack for 2 is better than one (in my opinion). ME3’s OST will not appear in this list because I see no need in repeating myself. However ME3 does have another great soundtrack *restrains self for whining about ME3*.

Honourable Mention

Grand Theft Auto : Vice City

GTA: Vice City objectively had the best song selection of all the GTAs – I do realise that that was actually an opinion. Vice City was really just Scarface : The video game, but that’s not a bad thing. It had all of the classics of the 70s, and right now I find it hard to actually find one song I want to show off. Decisions, decisions.
